How to Hide Toys in the Living Room
I’ve always been sensitive to clutter and scattered items, but as a parent it doesn’t take long to realize just how many items a child will have. We do our best to “limit” the amount of unnecessary toys Millie has, but I say “limit” very loosely. Nonetheless, there’s no avoiding it, a child comes with a LOT of stuff! Our home doesn’t have a basement nor a playroom or any type of spare room. Therefore, I’ve had to find other ways to hide Millie’s toys in plain site. Here are some of my favorite ways to store toys in the living room (dining room, kitchen…basically all over the house). Be sure to check out my Instagram reel video to see a lot of these toy storage ideas in action!

- Cube Organizer Shelves: We have 2 of these in Camila’s bedroom and recently added a small one to our home office/kitchen area. You can find a lot of cute fabric storage bins to place inside or you can use wooden milk crates. I’ve found the wooden milk crates are nice because they are strong, durable, and can hold heavier toys.
- Baskets: This is a no-brainer! We have baskets all around our house with toys. I prefer ones like these scallop lined nesting baskets because they have lids, but you can also simply place a blanket on top of a basket to hide what’s inside.
- Small Bins: If you’re storing items in a closet or on a shelf, small bins are a must. These are great for small toys, art supplies, etc.
- Play Kitchen: Ok, so I know this isn’t a typical storage area, but it’s actually a really nice place to hide items! We have Millie’s play kitchen in our living room. Without having a playroom or basement, we knew the play kitchen would be in our family room, so I made sure to choose one that wouldn’t be an eye sore. It holds all of her pretend foods, kitchen supplies, children’s apron, etc. so these items aren’t scattered around.
Do you have any other suggestions for toy storage around the house? I’d love to hear them! I’m sure our amount of toys will continue to increase each year!
