Weekly Catch Up

Happy Monday from Meg & Millie in the kitchen! Our weekend was cold, rainy, and extremely windy, so we spent it indoors. There was a lot of meal prepping and Masters Tournament watching for Brent and the standard housework and playing for us girls.

The past week was also pretty uneventful. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has had a huge surge in our area, much like most places here in the U.S. It seems like every day we wake up to a new friend or family member being positive. Due to this, we have come to the hard realization that we won’t be having our usual family get together with our siblings and their families to celebrate Thanksgiving. Although it’s for the best, it’s still upsetting. So, I did what it seems like much of the world is doing, and slowly started decorating for Christmas to cheer us up! We started by getting out Millie’s Christmas tree and I’m hoping to get out our large tree next weekend.

What we’re Watching, Cooking & Baking

Watching: Who else still has the guilty pleasure of watching The Bachelor/The Bachelorette? Pre-COVID my friends would come over weekly, Brenty would cook us up something delicious, I’d bake us some cookies, and we’d pretend to watch, but basically talk through the entire episode. Bachelor nights with my friends is honestly one of the things I miss the absolute most. I’ve still been watching it in the background weekly while I work and I have to say, I’m pretty excited Clare has been replaced with Tayshia! Who else feels this way?

Cooking: We decided to create a new soup recipe this week! Ok, ok, Chef Brenty did the actual cooking, and I just told him what I was looking for. It was a creamy chicken noodle, but we used Jovial rice noodles and coconut milk to make it gluten-free and dairy-free. And guys, it was SO good! I’m hoping to get the recipe written on the blog to share ASAP. We get our rice noodles and coconut milk (along with many other items) at Thrive Market, click here to receive 25% off your first order!

Baking: Ok, here is my department, the sweet treats! I baked two of my favorites last week. First, I made The Food Babe’s Mini Zucchini Muffins for Camila. These are one of our go-to breakfasts for Millie, I just top them with sunbutter or almond butter for added protein and she gobbles them up! They are sweetened only with banana, making them perfect for children.

After the news that our family Thanksgiving is canceled, I needed something sweet and delicious. So, I turned to my all time favorite cookie recipe, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies from Modern Honey. To make them dairy-free I simply replace the butter with DF butter and make sure to use DF chocolate chips.

Weekly Shopping Finds

Kitchen Helper Tower for Children: We recently purchased this kitchen tower/stand for Camila and it instantly became one of our favorite toddler items! Not only does Millie love standing in it to “help” while we cook or bake, but she also just loves standing in it to play, color, etc. at the kitchen counter. This allows me to do work around the kitchen, which is wonderful! We chose this children’s kitchen stand specifically because it folds up easily to store away. It does tend to sell out quickly, especially in certain colors, just a heads up!

Play Kitchens on Sale: We decided to get Camila a play kitchen as her big Christmas gift this year. The Pottery Barn play kitchens are absolutely beautiful (honestly, they’re nicer than our real kitchen!) and luckily they are currently on sale! They have so many cute options, I especially love this white play kitchen, this black one, this play kitchen with moveable parts, and this rustic play kitchen. As beautiful as the Pottery Barn ones are, they are expensive and there are also other great options for much less! I have heard wonderful things from friends about this white play kitchen and it’s currently on sale for only $130! This grey option is also super cute and a great price!

Bows & Blue Holiday Shop: I’m obsessed with everything Emily Hertz creates at Bows & Blue and I know I’m not the only one. Last week she added on holiday items (ornaments, tree skirts, gift tags & more) to go along with her every day items (hair bows, picture frames, etc.) Let me just say, they are all perfect and would make wonderful gifts!

Grace & James Kids Sale: Grace & James Kids has quickly become one of my favorite places to shop for Millie and they’re currently running up to $100 off! They have the absolute best personalized items including this embroidered sweater, this custom knit sweater and this embroidered cardigan. They also have beautiful Christmas pajamas for the whole family (I’m kind of mad at myself for not purchasing these!)

Weekly Question

Brent and I thought it would be fun to watch a movie this weekend. I honestly don’t know the last time we rented a movie! But, after searching for 30 minutes and not finding anything that looked great to us both, we ended up just watching TV instead…We need your help! What has been your favorite “new” movie since 2019? The last one we watched was “A Star is Born” in 2018!

Chocolate pb hearts with my sweetheart💕 SAVE th Chocolate pb hearts with my sweetheart💕 SAVE this recipe post!!

Millie and I made these yummy peanut butter chocolate hearts this weekend and if you can’t tell by the chocolate all over her face, they were a hit!!🤣

❤️Healthier Reese’s Hearts (GF, DF, EF)

2/3 c natural peanut butter
1 1/2 tbsp pure maple syrup
1/4 c almond flour
1 c dark chocolate (I used Hu gems)
1 tsp coconut oil

1. In a medium bowl, mix together peanut butter, almond flour & syrup.
2. Use your hands (or a rolling pin) to flatted dough on a pan. Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes.
3. Freeze hearts for 30-60 min.
4. Melt the chocolate & coconut oil in microwave.
5. Using a fork, dip each heart in chocolate and then place on top of a pan covered with parchment paper. Drizzle any extra chocolate on top.
6. Freeze for another 30-60 min. Enjoy!
*Store in freezer for 3 months. Pop in fridge for a few minutes to soften before eating.
*Make them nut-free with sunbutter and by subbing almond flour with 2-3 tbsp coconut flour.

These Valentine’s treats gave us the perfect excuse to ignore Millie’s “no eating in bed rule” while wearing the sweetest heart pjs from @lakepajamas! The kids sizes are selling out, so don’t sleep on them (pun intended!)😘
