Month number 7 with Camila was another great one! It was filled with more visits from friends, birthday parties, and her first Valentine’s Day. We also made the trip to Peoria to visit daddy at his new office and go out to lunch!

8 Month Old Baby Stats
We were at the doctor’s office a week before Camila turned 8 months old and on that day she weighed 14lbs 4.6oz and was around 25 inches long. She’s still in size 2 diapers and clothing size 3-6 months in most brands.

Baby-Led Weaning at 8 Months Old
As I mentioned in Mila’s 7-month-old blog post, we decided to go the route of baby-led weaning to introduce solid foods. It started off great, but then after a week we hit a very rough patch where she would cry at the mere sight of food. In the past few weeks she has slowly started eating again and no longer cries, so that is progress! I use the term “eating” loosely, as she typically only takes a few bites of food and if she actually swallows it down it’s a big win (she likes to hide food in her cheeks instead of actually swallowing!) Even so, we are not giving up. She now has mealtimes twice a day (mornings and evenings) and I also breastfeed her 5-6 times a day and once in the middle of the night. Here is a list of the foods she has tried, in case you’re curious. Also, be sure to follow along with my Instagram stories where I share pictures and recipes in the highlights!
- Avocado
- Banana
- Sweet potato
- Oatmeal
- Flaxseed meal
- Cauliflower
- Eggs
- Quinoa
- Apples
- Broccoli
- Spinach
- Chickpea pasta
- Applesauce
- Green beans
- Pumpkin
- Carrots
- Homemade teething biscuits
- Strawberries
- Honeydew
- Wheat pasta
- Cantaloupe

8 Month Old Baby Milestones and Favorite Things
Camila now sits on her own with ease, pushes up on all fours, and has just started standing up while holding onto something for a few seconds at a time. Her babbling gets more frequent and louder every day and she has finally said her first word, “mama”! She actually said “mama” and “dada” in the same day, but has only said “dada” a few times since that day. She loves laughing at games such as peek-a-boo and little piggies (also loves eating her piggies!) and if she is unhappy she lets it be known with yells and scowling looks! Mila continues to be very interested in the world around her and one of her new favorite things to do is look out the window. So, if you drive by our house don’t be surprised if you see a little head poking up over the couch! Some of her favorite toys this month include this organic sensory baby ball, this musical instrument set for babies, and the Sophie la Girafe sensory ball (Sophie la Girafe is still her favorite toy overall!)

Food Allergies in Baby
We saw an allergist this past month to discuss Camila’s dairy and soy intolerances. The good news is I have added baked in soy products (soybean oil, soybean lecithin) into my diet and Mila hasn’t shown any reaction. The not so great news is the allergist did a skin test for eggs and nuts and Camila reacted to peanuts, pistachios, and cashews. It is possible these are false positives, but her reaction was too large to do a food challenge with the allergist. As of right now, we are treating her as if she is allergic to these foods, but I’m considering getting a second opinion. We also plan on working up the dairy ladder and introducing baked in dairy to her diet within the next few weeks. I’m nervous, but hoping it goes as well as soy has thus far!

8 Month Old Baby Sleep and Schedule
Well, we have given in and accepted that co-sleeping is what works best for our family for now. If you’ve been following along you know that Camila used to spend most of the night being held upright. Luckily, we have moved past this and she will sleep on her back next to one of us most nights, so this is progress.
On typical days Mila takes 3 naps, but the time frame for these naps is still very sporadic. She will have a great week where she takes at least one nap over an hour each day and then the next week each nap is back to 30 minutes. We’ve just accepted that’s how it is and go with it! Another improvement is that Mila no longer naps in my carrier or wrap, all 3 naps are in her crib. Although, I do still use the Solly Baby Wrap most nights since we co-sleep and she goes to bed earlier than we do. I’ll put her in the wrap and Brent and I will eat dinner, relax, and get ready for bed before taking her out to sleep next to us. Sometimes it’s a pain in the butt because she will wake up attached to me while I’m doing something like brushing my teeth, but overall I love that time with her snuggled up on my chest and I’m going to hold onto it as long as I can!

Looking Forward To…
Our First Dinner and Breakfast Out! Ok, so technically this already happened last weekend, but I’m late writing the blog post. We’ve taken Millie out to lunch many times, but in the past week we ventured out for breakfast and dinner with friends. The car rides weren’t a blast, but we survived!
Camila’s First Wedding! This weekend we have my cousin’s wedding in Bloomington. We’re hoping to all be healthy and get to go this time!
A New Class for Camila! We continue to try and make it to “mommy and me” workout classes on Sundays and starting next week we are going to add a library class on Tuesdays! Some of Mila’s cousins attend this class and I’m very excited for her to get out and experience something new and make new friends!
Daddy’s Birthday! We are hoping to get together with some friends to celebrate our favorite guy this month!
Mommy & Daddy’s First Night Out! We have another wedding coming up in a few weeks that Brent and I are planning to go to without Camila. We’ve never been away from her in the evening, so this is both exciting and a little scary!
Thanks so much for reading! Every month there’s something new and we continue to love learning from and doing life with our sweet Camila Anne!
