Hard to believe our little Camila Anne has been with us for 2 months. Ok…actually 2 months and 6 days. I’ve learned everything takes much longer to get around to with a newborn, including writing a 2 month update blog post! But hey, better late than never, right?

Growing Baby

Slowly, but surely, our Mila girl has been growing! She weighed 6lbs 2oz at birth, 5lbs 9oz when we brought her home from the hospital, and at her 2 month checkup she was up to 8lbs 6oz. She loves to stretch out and her length is currently at 21 inches. She has graduated from preemie clothing and is now wearing newborns.

First Time Mother’s Postpartum Recovery

I didn’t get around to writing a 1 month update, but basically the entire first month I was a zombie. We’ve slowly been getting a little more sleep and most nights I now get a window of 3 1/2 hours in a row, which feels like a dream come true! It took my body the whole 6 weeks to fully recover from giving birth, but after that I was released to get back to normal activity. I’m hoping to find time to add some sort of workout routine into my schedule in the near future!

2 Month Old Baby Milestones

Some of the most excited things that Camila started doing this month include smiling, cooing, and giggling in her sleep. The moment she gave us a real smile we knew we were in trouble; she’s going to be able to get away with anything! Yesterday morning we were in for a real surprise when she rolled over from her stomach to her back two times in a row! Camila loves tummy time and holding her neck up, but we weren’t expecting her to roll over so quickly. She might be tiny, but she sure is mighty!

Camila Anne’s Favorite Things

Mila’s favorite things currently include bath time, listening to music, having books read to her, and having her daddy rub a blankie on the side of her face/mouth. For some reason this makes her smile every single time! Her favorite music is Dawes and Band of Horses, but this could be because it’s what I play for her in the mornings while I make breakfast. Her favorite book is currently Baby Faces. We read it every day and make up stories for each facial expression. I love watching her pick up on the different emotions!

Newborn Baby Struggles

Some of the more difficult aspects of parenthood that we’ve encountered include Mila having stomach reflux, having a possibly dairy and soy allergy, fighting sleep, and becoming overstimulated.

The stomach reflux has been difficult from the start because no matter what we do, if we lay her on her back she is constantly waking up to spit up, gag, or burp. Therefore, she has become very spoiled and loves to constantly be held. We are working on this!

If you follow along with my Instagram you might have seen on the stories that they believe Camila has a dairy and soy allergy due to bloody and mucousy stools. I have been completely dairy free for 2 full weeks now. She seems to be in less stomach pain, which is wonderful, but she still isn’t having normal stools. We have been told it can take a full 6-8 weeks for her stomach to fully heal, so we are praying we have found the culprit and it gets better soon.

As with many newborns, her new favorite thing to do is to fight sleep. She will clearly be very tired and fall asleep for maybe 2 minutes and the next thing you know she is wide awake. She is very determined not to give in! She also becomes overstimulated very easily. She is used to being home with mama in a quiet house all day, so when we leave home she isn’t a fan of all of the noise and chaos. This is something we are going to really start working on now that she has had her first round of immunizations.

2 Month Old Baby’s Daily Schedule

As any parent knows, the minute you think your newborn baby is getting on something that resembles a “schedule” the baby proves you wrong! A few weeks ago Mila was on a pretty routine schedule of feeding every 3 hours during the day and then at nighttime she would go one period of 5 hours from feed to feed.

Yet, last week she decided that wasn’t for her and is now eating every 1.5-3 hours during the day, depending how long she naps (or if she naps) between feeds. Most nights she will go two 5 hour spans from the start of one nursing session to the start of the next, giving her around 4 hours of sleep in between (she is a very slow eater!) I am slowly learning to let go of my need to schedule every single feed and nap, which isn’t easy for me since I have a very Type A personality and love to plan and organize.

We have learned that the most important nap of the day is the one right before bedtime. So, I do my best to at least schedule her last feed to fall around 5:30, then we take a bath around 6:30 and aim to get a solid hour and half to two hour nap in before waking her to eat around 8:30. Since she is so small we still have to wake her no longer than every 3 hours during the day and 5 hours at night.

Looking Forward To…

Getting out of the house more! Our pediatrician really encouraged us to wait until Camila had her first round of immunizations before we went out in public. Therefore, we haven’t been anywhere except our close family and friends’ houses and parks. We are so excited to be able to go out to restaurants, stores, etc.

Camila’s first real giggles! We are already obsessed with her smiles and now that we’ve heard a few giggles in her sleep we are eager to make her laugh while awake. We have no problem making ourselves look like fools to try and get a laugh out of her!

Camila’s first shopping trip! Every Labor Day weekend my mom, grandma, and I go on a shopping trip. We typically will travel to Chicago or St. Louis, but this year we are going to start small and take Camila to Peoria for her first shopping adventure and I can’t wait!

Have any of you had any of the same newborn baby struggles or exciting milestones? I would love to hear your experiences! Especially if you have experienced a baby with stomach reflux or a food allergy. Feel free to leave me a comment with your experiences and suggestions!
